It’s no secret that social media is expanding its reach, and because of it, social media managers are more in demand.
But have you ever wondered why this demand is growing?
Quick show of hands if you’ve ever asked a co-worker or friend, “Why hire someone when I or a team member can do it?” or “What’s the point of social media managers?”
Stick around for a few minutes, and I’ll not only show you why having a social media manager is important for your brand or business, but how hiring one can actually help your business thrive.
Here are my top 5 reasons why You Need a Social Media Manager
1. Let’s start with the most appealing reason: social media managers save you time. They (*deep breath*) come up with ideas, map out a strategy, create content, schedule content, monitor comments, respond to messages, engage with followers, engage with a business’s target audience, engage with other brands, and more.
You’re a busy person. You have to take care of the day-to-day tasks, scale your business, clarify your brand, manage your team, and more. Social media is just one more thing on your to-do list. Save yourself time and outsource it!
2. Social media managers provide a cohesive brand presence. Maintaining a consistent brand image and voice so a brand’s ideal customer recognizes and responds to them is important. Along these lines, SMMs also design appealing graphics that resonate with a brand’s audience (I pretty much live on Canva at this point).
3. Having a consistent presence on social media is key. I know you hear “consistency is key” from everyone: your doctor when he tells you to eat healthier, your gym when they try to convince you working out gets easier (debatable), your friend when they say tackling a few chapters each day will help you to finish a giant book … but they’re right.
It’s important to be consistent, and social media is no exception.

4. The amount of time people (your ideal customers) spend on media has risen and will continue. Wherever you go, I’m sure you’ll see someone on their phone. I’d also be willing to bet that they’re on social media.
Your business or brand needs to be on at least one social media platform. In the past, a random post here and there might have worked, but that doesn’t cut it anymore. Having someone to manage those platforms and keep up with trends helps you “stay in the game,” so to speak.
5. Building engagement and a loyal following are incredibly important. A lot of people believe that having a big audience translates to more sales and more revenue … but let’s debunk that theory. Would it surprise you to know that engagement trumps audience size (for most accounts anyway—there are special cases).
For example, if you have 20k people, but only a few engage with your posts: 1) the algorithm will think that it’s not good content and will limit who sees it and 2) your followers aren’t going to buy from you or pursue your services because they don’t care.
Let’s try another scenario: If you have 2,000 followers, but they’re excited to see what you post, trust you, and like interacting with you, then 1) the algorithm recognizes that your account provides value and 2) your devoted followers are much more inclined to buy your product or hire you.
There you have it: 5 reasons why you need a social media manager.
